A business user says they can't log in

If a business user is unable to log in to the Business Login portal, there are several things to check. Some of these overlap with general login issues, but there are also setup steps specific to Business Login accounts that are worth verifying.

Check they are using the correct login URL

The Business Login portal is accessed through the CMS login page, not a separate URL. Confirm the business user has been given the correct address and is not attempting to access a standard site page. Contact your site administrator if you are unsure of the correct login URL to share with business users.

Check the account has been activated

When a business user account is created in the CMS, an activation email is sent to their email address containing a link to set their password. Until this step is completed, the account cannot be used to log in. Ask the business user to check their spam or junk folder for the activation email. If they cannot find it, you or your site administrator can resend it from the Users section of the CMS.

Check the activation link has not expired

Activation links are only valid for a limited period. If the business user clicked the link but it had already expired, they will need a fresh one. Resend the activation email from the Users section of the CMS and ask the business user to use it promptly.

Check they are logging in with their email address

The CMS uses email addresses as login credentials, not usernames. If the business user is entering anything other than the email address their account was created with, the login will fail.

Check the account has been assigned to the Business Admins group

For a business user to access the portal, their account must be in the Business Admins user group. If the account was created but not assigned to this group, the user will be unable to access any business content after logging in. Check the user's account in the Users section of the CMS and confirm they are a member of the Business Admins group.

Check the user has been linked to a business

Even with the correct user group, a business user will see no content in the portal if their account has not been linked to a business listing. Business users are connected to their business via the Business Admins field on the business directory entry. Open the relevant business entry in the CMS and confirm the user's account appears in that field. If it does not, add them and save the entry.

If the user can log in but sees nothing

If the business user can authenticate successfully but the portal appears empty or inaccessible, the most likely cause is that their account is not linked to a business entry, or the Business Login feature has not been enabled for the relevant site. Contact your site administrator to investigate.
