A DataThistle event has the wrong business linked to it

When events are imported from DataThistle, the integration can automatically attempt to match each event's venue to a business listing in your directory. This matching is done by comparing the venue name from DataThistle against the names of businesses in your CMS. The process is not always perfect- similar names, abbreviated names, or businesses that go by more than one name can occasionally result in the wrong business being linked, or no match being found at all.

How to manually correct the linked business

You can correct the linked business by opening the event entry in the CMS and updating the Related Business field to point to the correct listing. Save the entry once you have made the change.

Bear in mind that if the event is updated in DataThistle and the sync re-processes it, the business link may be overwritten with whatever the automatic matching finds at that point. If keeping the correct business link is important, let your site administrator know so they can investigate whether the match threshold or business name data can be adjusted to produce a more reliable result in future.

If no business is linked but one should be

If a DataThistle event has no business linked and you believe one should be, the automatic matching process may not have found a confident enough match between the venue name and any of your business listings. You can add the link manually by opening the event entry and selecting the correct business in the Related Business field.

If this is happening regularly for a particular business, it likely means the venue name in DataThistle differs significantly from the business name in your directory. Contact your site administrator to review the matching configuration- it may be possible to adjust the sensitivity of the matching process or align the naming between the two systems.

If you want to permanently remove a business link from an event

If an event should not be linked to any business listing, you can remove the link by clearing the Related Business field on the entry and saving. As with corrections, there is a risk this could be re-populated by the next sync if the matching process finds a candidate it considers a strong match. Contact your site administrator if you need the link to remain empty reliably.

Turning off automatic business matching

If the automatic matching is causing more problems than it solves, it can be disabled entirely in the DataThistle settings in the CMS control panel. This will stop the sync from attempting to link events to businesses automatically, leaving the Related Business field for manual management only. This is a site-wide setting, so contact your site administrator if you would like to discuss it.
