How do I find out which pages on my site are returning 404 errors?

Retour automatically tracks every 404 error that occurs on your site and records it in a dashboard. You do not need to configure anything- tracking begins as soon as the plugin is active.

Accessing the 404 dashboard
Navigate to Retour (labelled Redirects in the sidebar) in the CMS control panel and open the Dashboard. This shows a list of all URLs that have returned 404 errors, along with the number of times each has been hit and when it was last requested. URLs at the top of the list with the highest hit counts are the ones causing the most impact and should be prioritised.

Understanding the data
Each row in the 404 list shows the broken URL, its total hit count, the date it was last accessed, and where the visitor came from (the referrer URL). The referrer is particularly useful- it tells you where the broken link lives, which helps you fix it at source as well as setting up a redirect.

Filtering by site
If your CMS manages more than one site, you can filter the 404 dashboard by site to focus on errors relevant to a specific site rather than viewing all errors across the board.
