I created a category but it isn't showing up as an option in my entries
If you have created a new category but it is not appearing as an option when editing an entry, the most likely cause is that the category was created in the wrong category group.
Category fields are linked to specific category groups
Your CMS has multiple category groups, each serving a different purpose- for example, there are separate groups for blog categories, event categories, business categories, offer categories, and so on. Each category field on an entry is configured to pull its options from one specific group. A category created in one group will never appear as an option in a field that is linked to a different group.
For example, if you create a category in the Event Categories group and then look for it in a Blog Categories field, it will not be there- even though both are categories.
To resolve this: check which category group the field on your entry is linked to, then navigate to that group and create your category there.
Check you are in the correct category group
To find your category groups, go to the Categories section in the CMS navigation. You will see a list of all available groups. Ensure you are adding your category to the group that corresponds to the entry type you are working on.
Check the category has been saved correctly
If you created the category but navigated away before saving, or if the save did not complete, the category will not exist in the system. Go to the relevant category group and confirm the category appears in the list. If it is not there, create it again and save.
Check the category is available for the correct site
In a multi-site setup, categories can be configured to be available on specific sites. If you are editing an entry on a site that the category group is not configured for, the category options may not appear. This is a configuration-level setting- if you believe a category group should be available on a site where it is not showing, contact your site administrator.
If the category group you need does not exist
If there is no category group that suits the type of categorisation you need to add, new category groups cannot be created without changes to the CMS configuration. Contact your site administrator to discuss adding a new category group.
