I related an entry to another but it isn't appearing on the frontend
Adding a relation between two entries in the CMS and having that relation appear on the live site are two separate things. If you have linked entries together but the related content is not showing up, the following checks should help identify why.
Check the related entry is published and enabled
The most common reason a related entry does not appear on the frontend is that the entry being referenced is not live. If the related entry is disabled, saved as a draft, has a future post date, or has expired, it will not be displayed- even if it has been correctly selected in the relational field.
Open the entry you have linked to and confirm it is fully published and enabled. If it is on a multi-site setup, also confirm it is enabled on the correct site.
Check the entry was saved after adding the relation
If you added the relation but navigated away or closed the browser before saving, the link will not have been stored. Open the entry containing the relational field and confirm the linked entry is still showing. If the field is empty, re-add the relation and save.
Check the page cache has cleared
Your site uses static caching at the server level. If the relation was added correctly and the related entry is live, but the frontend is still not showing it, the page may be serving a cached version that predates your changes. This should resolve automatically after a short time. If it persists, contact your site administrator to clear the cache.
Check the related entry has the required content
Some areas of the site will only display a related entry if it has certain fields populated- for example, an image or a description. If the related entry is live but missing key content, the component that displays it may be conditionally hidden. Review the related entry and ensure all key fields are filled in.
Check the relation limit has not been exceeded
Some relational fields have a maximum number of entries that can be linked at once. If a field has a limit of one related entry, adding a second will either replace the first or not be saved. If you are trying to link more entries than the field allows, you may need to contact your site administrator to discuss whether the field limit can be adjusted.
Check the relation is set up on the correct site
In a multi-site CMS, relations are managed per site. If you added the relation while editing an entry on one site, it may not be reflected on another site's version of the same entry. Use the site selector to switch to the correct site and confirm the relation has been added there too.
