Why can't I delete an entry?
There are several reasons why you might be unable to delete an entry in the CMS. The most common are covered below.
You do not have permission to delete entries
Deleting entries is a permission that is granted per user group and per section. If you cannot see a delete option on an entry, or receive an error when attempting to delete one, your account may not have been granted delete permissions for that section. Contact your site administrator if you believe your permissions need updating.
The entry is a Single
Some pages in your CMS are set up as Singles- pages that exist as one permanent entry, such as a homepage or a contact page. Singles cannot be deleted because they represent a fixed page on your site. If a Single page needs to be hidden from the site, it can be disabled rather than deleted.
The entry has child entries beneath it
In sections where content is arranged in a hierarchy- such as a nested page structure- a parent entry cannot be deleted while it still has child entries beneath it. You will need to either delete or reassign the child entries first before the parent can be removed.
The entry is enabled and needs to be disabled first
In the Business Login portal, an entry that is currently enabled cannot be deleted directly. The first time you use the delete action on a live entry, it will be disabled rather than removed. Once disabled, using the delete action again will permanently remove the entry. This two-step process is intentional and helps prevent accidental deletion of live content.
The entry was imported from DataThistle
Events that have been imported automatically from DataThistle are managed by the sync process. While these entries can be deleted manually, any entry you remove that still exists in the DataThistle feed will be re-imported the next time a sync runs. If you want to permanently remove a DataThistle event from your site, contact your site administrator.
If none of the above applies
If you have the necessary permissions, the entry is not a Single or a parent, and you are still unable to delete it, contact your site administrator for further assistance.
