Why is my content not showing on the site?
If an entry looks correct in the CMS but is not appearing on the live site, there are several things worth checking. This is a different situation to an entry going missing from the CMS entirely- here the entry exists and appears to be in order, but is not showing up where you expect it on the front end.
Check the entry is enabled and saved
It is easy to confuse saving a draft with publishing. When you save a draft, your changes are stored privately in the CMS but the live version of the entry remains unchanged. Only when you explicitly save and publish- using the Save button without the draft option selected- will your changes go live.
To check: open the entry and confirm the status in the top right corner shows as Enabled. If it shows as a Draft, use the Save button dropdown to select Save and publish.
Check the entry is enabled for the correct site
In a multi-site CMS setup, an entry must be individually enabled for each site it should appear on. An entry that is enabled on one site is not automatically enabled on others.
To check: use the site selector at the top of the entry editor to switch between sites and confirm the entry is enabled on the site you are checking.
Check the post date and expiry date
If an entry has a post date set in the future it will not appear on the live site until that date. Similarly, if an expiry date has been set and has passed, the entry will have been automatically disabled.
To check: open the entry and review the Post Date and Expiry Date fields in the settings panel on the right. Adjust these if needed and resave.
The site may be serving a cached version
All sites are hosted on Servd, which uses static caching to improve performance. This means that even after you publish a change in the CMS, the live site may continue to serve a cached version of the page for a short period before it updates automatically.
In most cases the cache will clear on its own shortly after you save your changes. If your content has not appeared after a reasonable amount of time, contact your site administrator who can manually purge the cache.
Check the entry meets the criteria for the page it should appear on
Some pages on your site display entries based on specific criteria- for example, only showing entries from a particular category, within a certain date range, or tagged with a specific term. If your entry does not meet those criteria it will not appear on that page even if it is fully enabled and published.
To check: review the entry's categories, tags, dates, or any other fields that might affect where it is listed, and confirm they match what the page expects.
Check that any related content is also enabled
Sometimes content is surfaced on a page through a relationship with another entry- for example, an event that appears on a venue page because it is linked to that venue. If the entry you are working on depends on another entry to surface it, that other entry also needs to be enabled and published.
To check: review any relational fields on your entry and confirm the entries they point to are live and enabled.
If none of the above resolves the issue
If your entry appears correctly in the CMS, is enabled, has the right dates, and meets the page criteria, but is still not showing on the site, the issue may be related to your site's configuration. Contact your site administrator for further assistance.
